TrailO @ the BOC

Orienteering Image

In addition to competing at the British Long Championships, in the afternoon there will be a chance to compete in a challenging TrailO event at Craig-y-nos Country Park, just 1km from the BOC car park.

Initial details are provided below.

Saturday 28th February 2026

Times

  • TrailO Starts (flexible – no individual times specified):
    • Elite 12:30-15:30 (Note: Early starts available for those not doing BOC)
    • A Class 14:00-16:00
    • Courses close: 17:00
  • TrailO Course times (subject to planning):
    • Elite – up to 80 minutes
    • A Class – up to 60 minutes
  • When entering the Long Championships, please select a start block which will enable you to start and complete the TrailO competition within the specified times.

Courses

Subject to planning

  • Elite: PreO course with 20-25 controls. There will be 1 or 2 Timed Controls on the course to provide tie break between those getting the same correct score
  • A Class: PreO course with 15-20 controls (with slightly simpler challenges – more suitable for those new to TrailO). No Timed Controls.

Timing/Punching

  • Timing: Competitors will use their SI card for timing (but available to hire at £2.00 – to be paid with entry)
  • Punching: Currently expecting to use pin punches (available to borrow for free) although electronic TrailO system (TOE Punch) is being considered (but unlikely!)

 Map

  • 1:3000 with 2m contours. Fully updated 2025-2026 for the event.

 Terrain

  • The country park is a well-maintained attraction in the River Tawe valley.  A large bend in the river encloses an area of generally flat land which has been carefully landscaped with lakes and some open areas of grass. Since the area was used for some junior courses at Croeso 2024, there has been significant storm damage resulting in major clearance of some woodland.  Surfaced paths, suitable for wheelchairs, are provided which make the area ideal for TrailO.

(online entry will be available soon - please come back to enter)
